Anne is a creative writer based on Vancouver Island. Her portfolio of work includes essays, short stories, and poetry that reflects the beauty and humour of everyday life, all from a refreshingly honest and heartfelt perspective.
Her work has even been published in The Globe and Mail First Person section, and one of her books titled Exit this Side can be found in the North Shore Authors Collection of 2019/2020.
In addition to writing, Anne is a successful marketing and brand executive who has decades of experience working for iconic Canadian brands. Her consulting business, Troubadour Creative, offers brandy strategy and marketing expertise to organizations that need to build audience and drive them to action.
Anne was ready to start sharing her work with the world and needed a new website and personal brand that positioned her as a "real" writer. It was important that the look and feel was an authnetic representation of Anne's personality and unique writing style.
She was ready for a website that:
The primary logo is fluid and unique, just like Anne's writing style. It's quirks give an overall creative feel, but it's traditional elements give hints of wisdom. As a writer, a word mark logo showcases her name.
Drawing inspiration from Anne's surroundings on Vancouver Island, I curated a colour palette with muted tones. Mirroring the reflective nature of the surrounding ocean and sky, a moody slate and a cool blue were a natural fit to showcase the observations showcased in her writing.
While most of the colour palette leans soft and cool, a vibrant coral was added for a touch of warmth and contrast. Anne is drawn to this particular shade of coral, as it reminds her of the sunsets she used to enjoy from the window of the Vancouver Seabus on her way home from work. As the designer, it felt natural to incorporate this colour as a thread of warmth that draws you in.
With a flair of personality and creative bend, I chose an elegant serif typeface to use in the wordmark and in top-level headings. RNS Sanz, a clean, sans-serif font adds balance to the typography and was chosen for it's easy to read at any scale.
I used the logo, colours, fonts and graphic elements to create a Wordpress website that was on brand, but still allowed for Anne's writing to shine through.
The tight, clean colour palette ensures that the photography or artwork that accompanies each piece of writing remains the focal point of each page.
The completed website has 5 main elements:
